Mukwege Award of Excellence

Mukwege Award of Excellence in Leadership for Social Justice and Peace

January 29, 2019

Moseka Action Project respects and honors the work of Dr. Denis Mukwege in the DRC. He not only helps women physically and emotionally heal after sexual violence, but symbolizes the hands and feet of Christ as he accepts recognition with humility and continues to hunger and thirst for Justice in the DRC. For more than a decade, he has fought for peace, social justice and democracy. He has even put his own life at risk and  has escaped multiple assassination attempts. His bravery and relentless fight has made him highly-esteemed, admired and has captured the attention of the world. Because of Dr. Mukwege's exceptional  resilience, work and service to those in need, Moseka was inspired to create and name after him,  an award based on his virtues in character and service. Dr. Denis Mukwege was the first recipient of the Excellence in Leadership for Social Justice and Peace Award. He is also the recipient of the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize. Moseka will continue to recognize greatness by awarding others for their fight against injustice in the DRC.

1 Peter 3:13-14 says, "Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?  But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened. But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord.”

For over 20 years, the DRC has been in continual political crisis that affects lives of many generations. Despite their infinite wealth of natural resources, its people are among the poorest in the world. This has brought the country into socioeconomic chaos. Dystopia has been created through corruption and greed. Human rights’ crimes remain rampant in the land, while violent rape is used as weapon of war with the purpose to exterminate the Congolese bloodline. Women are the innocent bystanders that are violently victimized daily.

The world must draw a red line on anything that is unacceptable. And one of those is the way women are abused during conflict.
